The Saturday Institute
The Saturday Institute is held October through April of the academic year. It is a 5-hour, intensive academic and social experience for participants ages 6-18. All Institute classes are held on the campus of George Washington University.

Saturday Institute participants are divided by grade level. Grades 1-5 are taught math, English and reading competency (Reading to Succeed!). Grades 6 through 9 are taught an advanced level of the same curriculum. All participants are taught by college students. Registration for the Saturday Institute is held in September and January.

College students majoring in Education and the social sciences are encouraged to apply for positions at both Camp Dogwood and the Saturday Institute.
Reading to Succeed!
Young people Grades 1 through 7 enrolled in Camp Dogwood and the Saturday Institute will be required to participate in the Reading to Succeed! reading fundamentals curriculum.

“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”
- Frederick Douglass
Reading to Succeed! is an AnBryce Foundation reading program dedicated to improving the reading skills of our participants Grades 1-7. Designed and distributed by Urban Education Exchange (UEE), this research-based literacy curriculum is based upon a framework of 19 specific thinking skills called the Concepts of Comprehension©. Each reading lesson will teach children the three important building blocks of strong reading comprehension: inferential thinking skills, vocabulary development, and world knowledge. They will also have direct instruction in “word decoding” to increase their phonics awareness and build confidence in their overall reading ability.

“You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”
- Mohandas Gandhi

Beginning with Camp Dogwood in summer 2008 and continuing through the Saturday Institute, Reading to Succeed! is an important part of all AnBryce Foundation programming. Participants will be assessed at the beginning and end of Camp Dogwood and Saturday Institute session to determine the reading level of each student and to measure their progress.

College students majoring in education and the social sciences are encouraged to apply for positions at both Camp Dogwood and the Saturday Institute.
